About me

I am Dr Mike, a teacher with 30 years of teaching experience. I have worked mainly in secondary schools as a Mathematics and Physics teacher from GCSE to A-Level. I have been a department leader, deputy headteacher and director of educational strategies for a leading multi-academy trust. My approach to teaching engages and challenges students so that they can apply their knowledge to new and unfamiliar situations in a real-life context. I focus specifically on developing students' metacognitive abilities - enabling them to reflect and evaluate their progress. Learning should be fun but challenging, allowing students to become new innovators. In 2004 I won the Teaching Award for secondary teacher of the year in North East and Cumbria. I also train students on the use of study skills classroom and have been a GCSE examiner for Physics.
