Reviews for tutors in Biggin Hill

Mr
Mr Tai
Biggin Hill
Online teacher for Year 5 11+ 11+ with 1 student
Liz was an exceptional tutor for my son, structuring the tutoring sessions to help build his confidence and competence.

Ms
Ms Jane
Nora tutored my daughter for her Biology IGCSE, the sessions were very interactive and focussed on exam technique and areas where she was struggling. The sessions were always tailored to my daughter's needs and Nora was friendly and reliable. We were really pleased with the service provided.

Mr
Mrs R. Kilian
Amina has tutored our children for the past 4 years. She is consistently extremely professional, with a warm and age-appropriate manner with the children, whilst setting high expectations in terms of attitudes to learning within the lessons. Amina always chooses material that offers exactly the right level of challenge for the children - stretching but not impossible. She identifies and targets any areas of weakness very promptly and insightfully. Both of our children perform consistently highly at school across all subjects, which we are sure Aminas work with them makes a significant contribution to. My son used to be slightly weak in English but has been consistently praised by his teachers in recent reports and parents evenings. Amina supported us during the process of applying for secondary schools and adapted her plans at short notice to accommodate our late decision to apply to Whitgift school for 10+. Thanks to Aminas support, our son was successful! Amina had also been preparing him simultaneously for the Wandsworth tests and developed a very clear and well targeted plans to achieve exam success without the child experiencing any stress.

Ms
Ms Minhee Cho
We were introduced to Amina by a friend when we were looking for a tutor who could teach English to our son. We were preparing 7+ exams at the time, with top academic schools such as Westminster, St Paul's and King's College in mind. We thought a tutor would be helpful as English was our son's second language and he was a little behind compared to his peers in writing and grammar especially. Amina taught our son for about a year (2022-2023) and what impressed us the most was how organised she was. After each lesson, Amina produced a lesson log to keep track of what topics our son has been covering and what the homework would be for the next lesson. Apart from the lesson logs, Amina would always provide verbal feedback straight after each lesson and gave us the chance to ask questions and express any concerns regarding our son's progress. We also liked the way Amina handled our son. At the end of the day, our son was only a 5/6-year old boy and it wouldn't have been easy get him to sit down and work. But it was clear to see that Amina was very experienced in dealing with young children as she was patient but also firm at right times. Amina was always on time for the lessons and never cancelled a scheduled lesson throughout the 1-year period she taught our son. We feel this kind routine and continuity helped with our son's progress and from the parents' perspective, made scheduling so much easier. Our son's progress was steady and this was what we wanted and expected as we didn't get Amina in in the last minute just before the exams to shoot up our son's marks. We wanted Our son to improve his English in general and gradually build up towards the exams and this is exactly what we had with Amina. All of our efforts resulted in us accepting an offer from St Paul's Junior for our son so we are extremely satisfied with the outcome and we would recommend Amina to other students who are looking for a tutor without any hesitation.

Mr
Mr Y Lee
I am very happy to provide a reference for my sons tutor - Amina Khatib, who came highly recommended. She has shown dedication and innovation in teaching our son since we recently relocated from South Korea. Amina has been a true asset to our sons education and has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and expertise in her work. Amina has been successful in supporting our sons transition into the UKs educational system and appears to show a particular talent when working with students who have English as their second language. She has employed a variety of appropriate resources and good practices to enable our son to overcome barriers to language and familiarise him with the culture and national curriculum. He looks forward to her lessons which are engaging. One of Aminas greatest strengths is her ability to deliver traditional face-to-face teaching with online delivery. This approach has proven to be especially effective for my son and other overseas students who are dealing with the added stress of relocation and culture shock. By providing online resources and appropriate textbooks and practice workbooks, Amina has made learning more accessible and engaging for my son and no doubt other students. As a self-employed private Tutor, she has developed a good system of administration which makes it quick and easy to understand and communicate our needs to her and her pricing structure is fair and affordable. Overall, I can confidently recommend Amina Khatib as an outstanding tutor who demonstrates a deep commitment to helping overseas students from South Korea succeed.

We only ever offer qualified teachers as tutors, as we believe professional teachers provide the highest quality of tuition.

Location
Home Tuition: Involves a teacher coming to your home in Biggin Hill to provide one-on-one instruction. This offers convenience as you don't need to travel. Online Tuition: This can take place anywhere with an internet connection. Small Group Tuition: Typically with between 2 to 4 children, and often occurs in a physical location such as your home, though it can also be online.

Individual Attention
Home Tuition: Offers the highest level of individual attention, as the tutor focuses solely on one student. Online Tuition: Still allows for one-to-one attention, but it may be slightly less personal than home tuition due to potential distractions. Small Group Tuition: Offers less individual attention as the tutor must divide their time and attention among multiple students.

Cost
Home Tuition: This tends to be more expensive because it involves one-on-one teaching, and the tutor is required to travel to your home, in Biggin Hill. Online Tuition: Often more affordable than home tuition as your tutor does not need to travel but may still cost more than small group tuition. Small Group Tuition: Generally, this is the most cost-effective option, as the costs are shared among several families.

Flexibility
Home Tuition: Offers flexibility in terms of scheduling and curriculum, as your tutor will only be working with your child. Online Tuition: Provides flexibility in terms of location and may offer a wider selection of tutors. Small Group Tuition: Lessons will be more difficult to schedule as lesson times will have to fit in with other families.

Interaction
Home Tuition: Offers in-person interaction, which can be beneficial for students who learn better through face-to-face communication. Online Tuition: Provides interaction through video conferencing tools and chat, which can be engaging but may not suit everyone's learning style. Small Group Tuition: Allows for peer interaction, which can benefit collaborative learning and discussions.

The choice between home, online, or small group tuition in Biggin Hill depends on your preferences, budget, and the student's specific educational needs. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to consider these factors when deciding.
